SWCA Incorporated
Senior Project Manager
Jacksonville, Florida
While on a soul-searching hike with some friends from my college fraternity and my dad, it became clear to me that a future desk job was not a good choice for me. The original plan was engineering. Working with wildlife and the ecology of where critters live became my obsession. Working in a collegiate and fun environment quickly became my passion. About 20 years ago, I figured out that if I wanted a fun yet professional work environment, I would have to create it myself. After a 17+ year journey as a successful business owner, my company was acquired by SWCA. Now the opportunities have expanded nationally so I look forward to seeing how my co-workers expand into their new roles.

Going from a business executive to an employee has been one of my greatest professional challenges. The relief of knowing that I have a team of remarkable professionals around me has been one my greatest joys.

The boring stuff:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Ecology from the School of Forest Resources and Conservation at the University of Florida.
• 26 years of experience in listed species, wetlands, mitigation, and environmental permitting-related tasks with state and federal regulatory agencies.
• Professional Wetland Scientist with the Society of Wetland Scientists.
• Wetland delineator for Florida and the Southeastern Gulf Coastal Plain Region. Keep the machete sharp and don’t let your soil probe get rusty.
• Instructor for hydric soils for the Florida Association of Environmental Soil Scientists (FAESS) annual soil workshop.
• Develops and designs mitigation plans, monitors habitat for mitigation projects, conducts listed species surveys, wildlife relocations, and habitat quality evaluations.
• Leadership Jacksonville Class of 2014.
• Board member starting about 2010 and board chairman of the North Florida Land Trust (NFLT) from 2015-2017.
• Environmental Protection Board of Jacksonville appointed in 2019 and serves on the Waterways Commission as an advisor.
• Special advisor to the Special Committee on Resiliency for the City of Jacksonville 2020-2021.
• Board of Directors for Florida Local Environmental Resource Agencies (FLERA). He is helping plan and will be a teacher for their hydric soils/wetland delineation workshop in August 2022.
• FWC authorized agent for gopher tortoises.
• Public speaker and community educator on subjects involving leadership, mitigation, and environmental issues.
• He reviews as many rural BBQ restaurants as possible. For my MBA friends, “The food is prepared already, so all you have to do is show up. Its efficient and tasty.”
